The Chase Team Ministry comprises of the parishes of All Saints, Malvern Wells & Wyche; St Andrew’s, Poolbrook; and St Mary’s, Pickersleigh. The team was formally created on 1st September 2014, although the three churches have been working together for over two years now and St Andrew’s and All Saints became a joint benefice back in 2001. The three parishes serve a population of approximately 10,500 people.
The Church in Malvern
The Chase Team ministry is within Malvern Deanery. There are fifteen churches and six stipendiary clergy and three non-stipendiary clergy within the deanery. The churches within the deanery are supportive of each other. This is also true of the other denominations within Malvern. These include two Roman Catholic, two Methodist, two URC churches, as well as a Baptist church; Evangelical Church; Eden Church; Source Church (Elim) and Life Church (New Frontiers). The church scene has in recent years been enriched by the move to Malvern of the UK Elim Pentecostal Church HQ and theological College, otherwise known as Regents College, whose staff and students are widely involved in the churches of Malvern.
Churches Together in Malvern is well supported as a forum to share new initiatives and opportunities for joint worship and outreach. It was instrumental in the setting up of the Malvern Food Bank, and it gives its support to a number of activities in local businesses and schools. Every year members from churches in Malvern (including Chase team) are involved with outreach activities in schools, including ‘Open the Book’ assemblies, ‘Lifepath’ and ‘Seeds for life’. Many young people are reached through these activities. Perhaps the most obvious united Christian witness in Malvern is expressed through the Lyttelton Well in Church Street Great Malvern. It comprises a bookshop and cafe, staffed mainly by volunteers, plus a dedicated prayer room, a resources centre and a venues for a variety of community-related activities. Besides all this, an important part of its work is its professional counselling service.
The Chase Team
Each of the three churches has its own distinctive character and we tell you more about these later in the document. Although each church has its own activities, we also come together for joint activities, including a Prayer Focus every two months. We also collaborate in a number of outreach activities such as Holiday Club (120 children and young people for a week in the summer), schools work and Holiday at Home where we offer some of our senior citizens a chance to meet, socialise, eat together and go on local outings. All three churches are active in promoting Fairtrade.
