Holiday at Home 2015

Over 50 Guests enjoyed an action packed week at this year’s Holiday at Home, which took place on the 17th, 19th and 21st August. (Our Team enjoyed the week too!)

Each day started with a “Thought for the Day”. As we are in a time of “Vacancy” this was delivered by 3 different members of our leadership team from All Saints/St Andrew’s.

As in previous years, we heard some inspiring speakers. On Monday, Karen Watson and Kevin Tudge, local Police Community Support Officers, gave a practical and thought-provoking presentation on security at home. On Wednesday local author and historian Cora Weaver talked about the Springs of Malvern – which was followed in the afternoon by a tour around the Malvern Hills to visit some of the springs she had mentioned. The Lord provided a little more water in the form of rain that afternoon and some guests enjoyed various impromptu detours necessitated by roadworks on one section of the route!

Home cooked meals were served with a smile on Monday and Wednesday – firm favourites were on the menu not to mention the lovely puddings. On Friday we were “out to lunch” for a fish & chips cruise on the River Avon on board The Spirit of Freedom. This proved to be a very popular outing - likewise the tour of the Royal Worcester Porcelain Museum.

As well as the Welcome Café, where our guests relaxed with a newspaper or chatted with friends old and new, activities were on offer in the Church and Church Centre including Scrabble, hand and foot massage, card making, flower arranging and pottery painting.

There was also time for a film about the production of Evesham’s Asparagus.
Each afternoon ended with a slap up tea – lashings of cake and conversation – before transport home.

Next year will be the 10th year of Holiday at Home – if you would like to be involved, either as a guest or Team Member, please contact Shaun McCarthy or Angela Gibson for further details.
