Holiday at Home 2016

Date:
15 August, 2016 - 10:30
Description:

This was the10th year of running our Holiday@Home  “week” for older members of the local community.  Events took place on the 15th, 17th and 19th August, and more than 50 guests attended.

On the Monday and Friday the days followed a similar format – a “Thought for the Day”, followed by a Guest Speaker, then a variety of activities ranging from flower arranging, card making and foot or hand massage to “Extend” exercise sessions.  Alternatively, guests could relax with a drink, read a newspaper or socialise over a board game.  A choice of delicious home-cooked meals were then served.  In the afternoons we took a drive out.  On one day we visited Tewkesbury Abbey for a guided tour, and tea and cakes.  Our second afternoon trip was a drive around Herefordshire stopping off at the Hop Pocket Shopping Village, before returning for a slap-up cream tea.

On the Wednesday we had a full day out visiting the National Memorial Arboretum in Staffordshire.  The weather on that day was fantastic and after a picnic lunch we embarked on a tour of the 150 acre site aboard one of their land-trains.  It was a memorable and thought provoking experience, especially for the majority who had never previously visited the site.

Just as in previous years, the speakers, meals and events proved very successful and the week was enjoyed by all – guests and helpers alike.
